About ScanCheck
Democratic, zero-friction product safety and recall screening for everyday shoppers and parents. Built with zero telemetry, zero accounts, and on-device privacy.
How ScanCheck Resolves Recalls
Federal recall databases (like CPSC SaferProducts.gov) do not legally require companies to report barcodes. Direct barcode searches miss over 60% of recalled products. ScanCheck solves this with a resilient two-stage resolution engine:
1
Stage 1: Direct Federal UPC Match
Scanned barcode queries CPSC and openFDA registries with a strict 3-second timeout budget.
2
Stage 2: Catalog Resolution & Text Triage
If direct UPC yields zero results, the catalog engine resolves brand and model numbers, re-querying official federal hazard notices by model text.
3
Stage 3: State Chemical Rules Engine
Ingredient disclosures are deterministically regex-matched against California AB 418 and AB 2762 bans client-side.
